Community Messages vs. Announcements vs. Notifications

Send an announcement, notification or community messages to residents and families.

Speak2 provides a "Community News” feature that allows the community to broadcast updates and share to the Resident App, web and Alexa.

When should I send an announcement, set a notification, or broadcast “Community Messages”?

While this is community-specific and driven by the type of residents and culture a community has, below are some guidelines and examples:

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Proactive communications that are worthy of being broadcast without solicitation.

For whole community For individuals
  • Building maintenance
  • Shelter in place
  • Meal notifications
  • Special events
  • Visitors
  • Package arrival
  • Ride/transit
  • Appointment reminder

NOTIFICATIONS

Passive communications that residents must  solicit on Alexa.

Note: Notifications can be automatically set when an announcement is set, so any announcement that is missed remains on the Alexa device until midnight.

COMMUNITY NEWS

These are intended to be shared with all residents. They are accessible during the check in routine, on screen as signage, and by request. This is also visible in the resident app and web.

Community News and Announcements may be some of the same information, and there is no reason to choose one or the other, as both can be used if appropriate.

Note: Notifications can be automatically set when an announcement is set, so any announcement that is missed remains on the Alexa device until midnight.
