Reset Echo Dot

How to reset or set up an Echo Dot (screenless)

  1. Connect your phone or tablet to the Alexa wifi
    1. Your phone must be on Wi-Fi in order for the device to be properly set up. Please reach out to your community or Speak2 if you need Wi-Fi information. 
  2. Download the Alexa App. If you are already logged into an account, log out.

  3. Login to the Alexa App
    1. Please email support@speak2family.com for the Amazon email or password. 
    2. Accept the "Speak2 Guest" profile. Do not create a new profile and skip all prompts and steps. Do not add a phone number or enable your Contacts. If presented with WiFi information, enter the same details as above. 
  4. Setup the Alexa
    1. Plugin the Alexa and hold down the circle (across from the mute button) until it resets or launches "set up" mode. It will blink yellow/orange.
    2. Once in setup mode, the user may be prompted with a popup in the app to set up the nearby device. Accept this. If the pop up doesn't appear, go to the bottom menu where it says "Devices" and click the top right "+."
    3. Click "Add Device" on the bottom of the screen.
    4. It will ask what kind of device to add. Select "Amazon Echo." Then select the type of Echo (Alexa) they are setting up.
    5. The user may be prompted to "accept" or "skip" things, like adding an address or creating a voice profile. Skip all of these items.
    6.  When the process is complete, Alexa will start talking. She'll ask you to say a few things and set up a voice profile (yes, again). Ignore all of this.
    7. Keep the device plugged in. 
  5. Send to Speak2
    1. Provide the DSN or 3 digit code to Speak2. Follow directions here in the Staff App.
