Signage with Speak2

You can create visual displays across all of your screens, both TV or Alexa, using Speak2.

You can create signage for TV screens and Alexa using Speak2. The benefit of using Speak2 for your signage is that you can target very specific content to specific screens in a flexible way. You also have the benefit of using existing Speak2 content without the need for re-creating content for signage. Below are the ways you can use Speak2 signage:

  • Predefined TV and Alexa slide templates using Prntyr
  • Create custom designed slides using Prntyr
  • Automate Speak2 content, such as your calendar and menu, so that your existing Speak2 content can be easily displayed on your screens in a flexible manner.
  • Create custom slides for Alexa devices.
  • Preview all TV Screen signage, rearrange the order of slides and manage slides in real-time.
  • Preview all Alexa signage (limited in management based on Amazon restrictions).
  • Create your own custom designs in Prntyr and share with your team(s).
  • Include YouTube video links to play on your TV screens.

The following sections provide instructions on how to create and manage signage.

NOTE: Confusion is often caused by the separation of Alexa vs. TV signage. Alexa signage is managed separately from TV signage because it is limited in features. However, we do make it easy to share slides to both Alexa and TV at the same time (which can cause confusion). Please read the below carefully to understand the flexibility of the system and how to use it.

You can only preview Alexa slides in the Speak2 portal under the Alexa signage link.

You can only review TV slides in Prntyr under the Slides-TV Preview link.

Display in Signage checkbox in events/services

A common question is "do I need to create signage if I already have "Display in Signage" checked in my event/service?"

The short answer is NO. If you have a service in your activity calendar that has "Display in Signage" checked, then there is no need to create signage from that event, as it will already do so based on your service checkbox.

If you have "Display in Signage" checked, the signage will be created the morning of the service/event and display until 30 minutes after the event starts. It will use the text and image that is setup for that service/event.

Create Slides using Prntyr

The most common use of signage is to send slides to TV screens. This is done via our FireTV app (instructions here). To create slides for TV screens, follow the steps below.

  1. In the portal navigation, click Prntyr. You should be automatically logged into Prntyr, but if you aren't, use the same login for Prntyr as for the Speak2 portal.
  2. Once in Prntyr, you will be presented with the Design page, which includes pre-built TV slide templates as shown below:
  3. You can select an existing template as your starting point, or you can click the "Slides" link at the top of the page.
  4. In the "Slides" section, you can create a custom slide or manipulate an existing template on the canvas.
  5. You can SAVE your slide for future use as a template (for yourself or for others).

  6. You can SHARE your slide to various exports:
    1. "Image" (PNG, JPG) exports to your computer as ZIP file
    2. "PDF" downloads to your computer
    3. "Print" sends to your printer
    4. "Create a PDF" sends you an email with PDF file
    5. "Create Alexa slide" sends the slide to Alexa screens
    6. "Create TV slide" sends the slide to TV screens
  7. If you choose to Create an Alexa or TV slide, you will be prompted with choices for how, when and where to send the slides. It is important to read each of these options carefully and choose your times and dates as intended.
  8. Note: You can only send a slide to TV or Alexa. This is because they have different dimensions, and therefore must be created separately to ensure it displays properly on both screens. Note the dimensions selection in the toolbar:
  9. You will see any slides you created in the left navigation under the "Templates" link. You can preview your slides as they will appear on the TV screen by clicking the "TV Preview" link.
  10. NOTE: You will not see any "Alexa" slides in the TV preview. You will only see Alexa slides in the portal under the Signage link.

Signage with Speak2 content is created overnight.

Preview TV Slides

You can preview TV slides in the Slides section of Prntyr. The TV Preview allows for you to do the following:

  • Preview what your TVs will display based on date selections. If you want to know what slides will be shown next week, today, or any given day, just select the dates you want to view.
  • Edit slides. You can click the edit icon on any slide and you will be brought to the slide edit screen.
  • Delete slides. You can click the delete button to remove any slides from being displayed for the date range you've chosen.
  • Arrange slide order. You can drag the handle of any slide and rearrange the order in which they are displayed on TV screens.
  • View slides horizontally or vertically.

Create simple signage for Alexa

Simple Signage is limited. You cannot change font, placement or required fields. If you want more customization, use Prntyr.

  1. Navigate to Signage on the left hand Navigation
    signage
  2. To edit a signage, click the Edit pencil icon in the top right corner of the image. You can now "edit" the existing slide and save it as a new slide. NOTE: The existing slide will still be displayed on Alexa. You must delete the existing slide for it to stop displaying on Alexa. This is an Amazon limitation.
  3. To create signage, add the Title, subtitle, recipients, start time, end time and select a photo.
  4. Signage is sent to Alexas only from this screen. If you want your Alexa slide to also be sent to TV screens, check the "Display on TV screens". checkbox.

Above POINT 2 Emphasized! Based on the way Alexa works, you cannot "edit" an existing slide that has been sent to Alexa. You can create a NEW slide by clicking the edit button, but you must DELETE the existing slide and recreate

  3. Toggle the content types to "on" that you want to automatically create each day. If the toggles are blue, that means they are on and will create new signage each day.
  4. You can select specific groups to receive this Alexa signage.
  5. If you want this signage to be created for TV screens, you can select the "Display n TV screens" checkbox. NOTE: The dimensions of Alexa signage is not ideal for TV screens.
  6. These will update overnight. If there is a change in your schedule that happens after 2:00 AM, they will not be reflected in the automatic signage. You will need to delete incorrect signage and create new signage. See above.
